Tom's Reviews This is a solid effort for a first ep!! There's room for growth, but I really enjoyed what this band has created; very much looking forward to what they do next!!! Favorite track: Oathbreaker.

Matthew Simon Fletcher I'm really proud of what we produced! I often hear stories of musicians hating their own work and that always saddens me.

Onwards with the album which I hope you'll enjoy even more. It's going to be so very much more intense ;)
Favorite track: Divergence.

Divergence 03:29
Verse 1 See the side of me running through the woods that please The eye onto the soul that never grows I hold onto myself but time will not hold onto me Let the writings on the cold night follow true Chorus I want you to know, I want you to see Just how much this meant to me All of the times that we had Lie in misery Lost between your life and what you're meant to be Tied down by the chains you can't see Breakdown The crystal water shows the face That I still loathe (Darkness deep inside) I follow the moonlight and dance through This silver night (Where will I run to?) Chorus 2 I want you to know, I want you to see Everything you've done to me All of the things that you said Masked in treachery Lost between your life and what you're meant to be Tied down by the chains you won't see

Oathbreaker 05:08
Intro Oathbreaker Verse 1 What have you done (Oathbreaker, what have you done?) Before the setting sun? (Oathbreaker, what have you done?) What have you done (What have you done, what have you done?) Before the setting sun? (What have you done to us?) Chorus Don't you know when we sit face to face, I see That little look in your eye when you lie to me All our love was replaced with animosity Could we ever go back to what we used to be? Do you remember what I said when you walked away? "Will you look back in fondness on our yesterdays?" Was it all an act, just a role that you portrayed? Well, I guess you never even cared anyway Verse 2 I let you lead me astray (astray) Never will I find my way (find your way) Home is lost (Home is lost) Your light is blinding I could not see (I could not see) The approaching darkness Bridge Can you see them circle? The vultures await your end Can you feel it worsen? This life you have will rend Can you see them circle? The vultures await your end Can you feel it worsen? This life you have will rend Chorus Don't you know when we sit face to face, I see That little look in your eye when you lie to me All our love was replaced with animosity Could we ever go back to what we used to be? Do you remember what I said when you walked away? "Will you look back in fondness on our yesterdays?" Was it all an act, just a role that you portrayed? Well, I guess you never even cared anyway

Deviate 03:46
Verse 1 Enduring the darkness I want to defy, deviate from this life Fighting so long, we can't remember any other way What's left is bound to decay You would not hear You would not save me Cast these demons out my soul Chorus I have seen through your lies, looked past your disguise Emerged from the shadows of my past I’ll cast off these ties, renounce all these vows My voice is now yielding a dissonant sound Escaped from your walls, you’re blind to the fall You were betrayed by your fortune You live on in my thoughts, lamentable tyrant Your time has come Verse 2 But now here I stand, a ghost of myself Irritational fears are controlling my life My mind is a cage, concealing these chains These phantoms unyielding, unending this hell I feel this connection (I feel this connection) I see what's left inside My mind is afflicted (My mind is afflicted) I'm praying for something more To spite you I’ll vanquish these demons inside Every step that I take leaves another mistake Reminds me I'm human, overcoming these flaws Step back and see we’re fighting an endless war Bridge We’re fighting an endless war We’re fighting an endless war We’re fighting an endless war We’re fighting an endless war Deviate I will deviate I will deviate Outro You would not hear You would not save me You would not hear You would not save me

Shatter 03:26
Intro Search for something, stop at nothing I see clear there's pain in your eyes Fight your demons, the non-believers Close the door and cast them out Verse 1 I emerge from the stars that bore me Casting light from celestial entities Seek the path of the righteous dreamer Tranquil thoughts unbound by silence Breathe in deep till you find perfection A spark of life in the garden of my soul These fears surpassed by progress My hopes and dreams become my goals Chorus Believe, shatter your imperfections Shatter your self-control Relive your past, rebuild the broken heart that made you weak Wash away your broken shell Recover light, your inner child Seeks heart's delight And you'll find The person you seek Has walked beside you all along Verse 2 Push away your demons Oh, blessed rebirth, so transcendental Dim the lights and I fall Time is marching on Never can replace this, sever or erase this Darkness in my soul My mind now running scared to face A curse now brought to bare disgrace But now these sins I will endure Face this life forevermore Bridge In the depths of your minds plays this song Harmonious sanctuary unchained (Harmonious sanctuary unchained) On the wings of attainment soar Chorus 2 Believe, shatter your imperfections Shatter your self-control Relive your past, rebuild the broken heart that made you weak Wash away your broken shell Recover light, your inner child Seeks heart's delight And you'll find The person you seek Has walked beside you all along

Verse 1 Watch me burn into the night See the fire and ice rage war Through the skies, dancing and falling From deafening heights Watch me mask the land in ice Witness frost and flame collide Trapped in time, the battle is endless These warring elements Pre-chorus Somewhere here, trapped in tundra We have been torn asunder Somewhere here, trapped in tundra We have been torn asunder We have been torn from you From you Chorus I'm surrounded by your flames (Can't you hear me scream your name?) Remember what I said to you (I was reaching out to you) See the wind carry these cinders (We were engulfed by an endless winter) I was reaching out to you (I was reaching out to save you) Verse 2 Time is consuming the life We are throwing away Lost with your death, I'm reaching out For your soul within the stars Death is consuming our minds (Our minds) We are meant to decay (We are meant to decay) Imprisoned by hate, I'm reaching out (We are meant to decay) For your disconnected soul Verse 3 I went to the place where the embers danced I reached through the flames, see the scars on my hands I reached out to you, to contain the flame But I flinched at your gaze, your look of disdain I see the pain, all the ice in your veins "Was it all for nought, was it all in vain?" Still I reach out for your soul, disconnected Trying to heal the pain that you've inflicted I'm up to my knees, trudging through snow I'm following you, forever in tow I never thought I'd ever follow you through hell But something about your eyes put me under a spell I wanted to break your shell, witness emergence But all I got in the end was our divergence I was guided by a mischievous spirit But now I think I've reached my limit Oathbreaker I am, your heart I shattered Threw away the pieces and left them scattered Everything between us is nothing but hate I can't believe I couldn't see us deviate Maybe someday our war will cease Maybe then we can find a little bit of peace There's something there you couldn't see Just how much you meant to me Bridge We are entwined Frozen in time Fire consuming the ice Ice dousing the flame We are entwined Frozen in time Fire consuming the ice Ice dousing the flame I'm surrounded by your flames Can't you hear me scream your name? See the wind carry these cinders We were engulfed by an endless winter Breakdown Maybe one day our war will cease (Warring elements) Maybe one day our war will cease (Warring elements) Maybe one day our war will cease (Warring elements) Maybe one day our war will cease (Warring elements) Pre-chorus We have been torn asunder Chorus I'm surrounded by your flames (Can't you hear me scream your name?) Remember what I said to you (I was reaching out to you) See the wind carry these cinders (We were engulfed by an endless winter) I was reaching out to you (I was reaching out to save you)

[INSTRUMENTAL]

about

‘Warring Elements’ is the debut EP from cinematic metallers Disconnected Souls.

Based in Chester/ Manchester, the band wanted to create something different, something that incorporates a range of metal subgenres whilst maintaining a unique sound. The seven track EP tells the story of two opposing forces as they battle with each other and attempt to make sense of the world around them. It isn’t a straight-forward as good versus evil, it is far more complex than that.

‘Emergence’ and ‘Divergence’ link together to create a dramatic and theatrical opening to the EP. These tracks draw from influences of symphonic metal respecting Holly’s vocals and the use of orchestral instruments. The heavy breakdown introduces oriental motifs and brings a feeling of fantasy to the track.

‘Oathbreaker’ combines what is best described as a heavy hard rock track with a synth fuelled breakdown. Keeping a sense of the eerie and dissonant, the first verse sees Patrick and Holly’s vocals deliver an emotional and ethereal harmony.

Experimenting with song structure is hugely important to Disconnected Souls and that can be seen in ‘Deviate’. It contains but one chorus and yet, it doesn’t feel lacking through the instrumentation of the breakdown and outro.

‘Shatter’ is best described as a ballad. It’s not your normal ballad by any means but guitar tones, keys and synths have all been carefully used to produce a track that conforms to this style, with a Disconnected Souls twist of course. The double kicks on the bass drum run throughout the chorus giving a boost of energy and Patrick’s harsh vocals introduce that distorted tone that keeps this track grounded in their sound. This track also features a number of guest musicians and artists in the ‘The Choir of Souls’: Courtney Dean, Matthew Simon Fletcher, Felix Hughes (LycanFell), Helen Jarsdel, Patrick Lloyd, Thomas Lloyd (Curse Of Dawn), Lee Mintz (Mithya, DSME), Conner Nickols (Transplant Junkie), Lindzi North (Curse Of Dawn), Holly Royle, Jordan Taylor, Iona Woods, Jonny Young (Fight The Tornado), William Alex Young (The Enigma Division and Defences).

The title track, ‘Warring Elements’, is the heaviest on the EP and was created around the idea of two opposing forces – the warring elements. Disconnected Souls use eight-string guitars and for this track, they really wanted to make use of this. The aggressive guitar tone, immense bass and techno style synths draw together to form an incredible track. This track brings in new techniques and experimentation; the rap section prior to the breakdown explores Patrick’s vocal style and brings another dimension to the track. The breakdown itself is monstrous. The half-time section replicates the slow-motion feel of a dramatic fight; the climax of the action. The dynamics of the track change suddenly with an intricate piano melody following the breakdown. The piano melody includes the main motifs from all of the tracks on this EP wonderfully drawing together the concept that runs throughout.

‘Mischievous Spirits’ brings a very different sound the release. This bonus track is an unusual addition that greatly deviates from the other tracks. This instrumental features a variety of traditional folk instruments including Felix Hughes’ performance on the kalimba. It is an incredible ethereal sound. Despite being so different, it has received great praise from fans and brings a calming end to the dramatics of the previous tracks.
