The title track, ‘Warring Elements’, is the heaviest on the EP and was created around the idea of two opposing forces – the warring elements. Disconnected Souls use eight-string guitars and for this track, they really wanted to make use of this. The aggressive guitar tone, immense bass and techno style synths draw together to form an incredible track. This track brings in new techniques and experimentation; the rap section prior to the breakdown explores Patrick’s vocal style and brings another dimension to the track. The breakdown itself is monstrous. The half-time section replicates the slow-motion feel of a dramatic fight; the climax of the action. The dynamics of the track change suddenly with an intricate piano melody following the breakdown. The piano melody includes the main motifs from all of the tracks on this EP wonderfully drawing together the concept that runs throughout.
lyrics
Verse 1
Watch me burn into the night
See the fire and ice rage war
Through the skies, dancing and falling
From deafening heights
Watch me mask the land in ice
Witness frost and flame collide
Trapped in time, the battle is endless
These warring elements
Pre-chorus
Somewhere here, trapped in tundra
We have been torn asunder
Somewhere here, trapped in tundra
We have been torn asunder
We have been torn from you
From you
Chorus
I'm surrounded by your flames
(Can't you hear me scream your name?)
Remember what I said to you
(I was reaching out to you)
See the wind carry these cinders
(We were engulfed by an endless winter)
I was reaching out to you
(I was reaching out to save you)
Verse 2
Time is consuming the life
We are throwing away
Lost with your death, I'm reaching out
For your soul within the stars
Death is consuming our minds (Our minds)
We are meant to decay (We are meant to decay)
Imprisoned by hate, I'm reaching out (We are meant to decay)
For your disconnected soul
Verse 3
I went to the place where the embers danced
I reached through the flames, see the scars on my hands
I reached out to you, to contain the flame
But I flinched at your gaze, your look of disdain
I see the pain, all the ice in your veins
"Was it all for nought, was it all in vain?"
Still I reach out for your soul, disconnected
Trying to heal the pain that you've inflicted
I'm up to my knees, trudging through snow
I'm following you, forever in tow
I never thought I'd ever follow you through hell
But something about your eyes put me under a spell
I wanted to break your shell, witness emergence
But all I got in the end was our divergence
I was guided by a mischievous spirit
But now I think I've reached my limit
Oathbreaker I am, your heart I shattered
Threw away the pieces and left them scattered
Everything between us is nothing but hate
I can't believe I couldn't see us deviate
Maybe someday our war will cease
Maybe then we can find a little bit of peace
There's something there you couldn't see
Just how much you meant to me
Bridge
We are entwined
Frozen in time
Fire consuming the ice
Ice dousing the flame
We are entwined
Frozen in time
Fire consuming the ice
Ice dousing the flame
I'm surrounded by your flames
Can't you hear me scream your name?
See the wind carry these cinders
We were engulfed by an endless winter
Breakdown
Maybe one day our war will cease (Warring elements)
Maybe one day our war will cease (Warring elements)
Maybe one day our war will cease (Warring elements)
Maybe one day our war will cease (Warring elements)
Pre-chorus
We have been torn asunder
Chorus
I'm surrounded by your flames
